I’d read that breastfeeding in public wasn’t really accepted in Japan, so I came prepared—with a muslin blanket and a mental map of all the pods. But here I was at a sushi belt restaurant, baby fussing, no pod in sight… so I fed her. Not one person stared. Not one person made a comment. I tried to be respectful of local norms, but I learned quickly that most people were either too polite or too supportive to make it awkward. Japan was actually one of the easiest places I breastfed—and that shock
