Spokane is a ghost town located in Custer County, South Dakota, United States. Founded in 1890, it was a mining camp in the Black Hills until its abandonment in the mid-20th century.

Jan 2, 2018 · Spokane is an exception, and is one of the most intact ghost towns in the Black Hills. The remains of the rough-and-tumble mining town can be found near Custer State Park’s northern edge. In 1890, the Spokane mine began operations and a town of the same name formed around it.

Spokane was founded in 1890 when a mine was discovered in the area. The mine and town was quite profitable in the 1920’s, but when the mine went dry, so did the town. Today the town is a ghost town.

Spokane was an important mining camp located in Black Hills within Custer County. The town was established in 1890 following the discovery of silver/gold at the Spoken Mine. The Judd family founded Spokane. Judd found a little vein in the side of a nearby hill, and set up a claim there.

At the head of the meadow, a two story house and garage stood guard over what we now realized had to be the townsite of Spokane. The house was deserted now but for how long has it been that way? It had a timeless quality about it.
