Pinkies are very rare though, so I wouldn't rely on them.

If you really want to up your chances of getting a Slime Staff, craft one or more stacks of Slime Crowns and grind on the slimes that come out of the King Slime when you hit it. Within 24 hours (late last night and earlier this morning) I managed to get two Slime Staffs. It only took 30 Slime Crowns to get them.
