Aug 26, 2018 · Realistically the only reason you would want to go that heavy on shot would be turkey, and you'd be better off around 100 gr or less powder at that point. 1 3/8 oz is a pretty standard 12 gauge load, and is about what a round ball weighs.

Jul 31, 2005 · I used to shoot my New Englander with a round ball. 80 grains FFg, over powder wad, heavy patch with a .69 round ball. It was surprisingly accurate. I could usually hit a 5 gallon bucket at about 70 yards with just the bead sight.

Sep 29, 2015 · Ideally, one would have a "cylinder-bore" choke tube but Thompson Center did not supply or make one. Those screw-in T/C choke tubes make the New Englander shotgun too difficult to load. Nov 30, 2010 · The T/C New Englander is a real meat and potatoes rifle. It has a 1-48 twist. I have three or four of them. They shoot roundball very well, sabots, even conicals. A friend of mine as a 50 caliber NE and all he hunts with are maxiball and he has never had a deer walk away from it. If the rifle has the composite stock, you have to get used to them.

Sep 15, 2014 · I think the New Englander has a 1:66 twist to the barrel and therefore is best used with patched round balls. Try a .490 ball in a .015 lubed patch and 65 gr. Of 3F. Conicals are iffy in a barrel made for PRBs.
