Some engines will run fine with a crack in the block so you can't always go by that.Water in the bilge is a good possibilty.A close look at the block under where the heads meet for water seeping.Or have a pressure test done on it..that is the most effective way to find a crack.

What are the symptoms of a cracked block on a 350 Mag
May 6, 2018 · Usually two main symptoms. One is water hosing like a fire engine into the bilge from one or both sides of the block. Low down. Other is less obvious and comes from the exhaust manifold being damaged. This usually throws water into the engine through exhaust valves. Whatever, it does not sound good. is it a 350 mag carb or MPI

Block alone (reconditioned) some where between $400.00 to $600.00 then there is all the other parts you will have to change rings,bearings,gaskets. Im sure you know labor is always three time parts and for pulling a motor complete rebuild (swap out) and reinstall you can see why.

In regards to the manifold gasket coming loose: from what I remember the gasket was sold as three separate pieces that went between the manifold and the block. They basically just slide into place. One of them fell out. Not sure how.

Jun 4, 2010 · Re: Mercruiser 3.0 Cracked Block I just went through this with a 305 V8 cost me 2200 machine work and all for automotive block and total rebuild and replace at a local mechanic (used the old crank, rods and cam) , dealer wanted 4000+tax, just glad I got in early spring got the boat back in time for summer now hes backed up with cracked blocks.

You need a block that has the mounting points cast into the front of it. The other option, depending on where the crack is, is to repair it. Couple of techniques come to mind.

Mar 4, 2018 · Block sealer won't work with a raw water cooled block. I don't use sealants in the cooling system, unless it's an emergency. Agree with Bondo, exactly what was done to pressure test the block. I had a bit of water in the oil on my engine. Bad manifold, leaking water into the manifold, then into a cylinder, past the rings, and into the oil.
