Castle Tioram (/ ˈ tʃ iː r ə m /; Scottish Gaelic: Caisteal Tioram, meaning "dry castle") is a ruined castle that sits on the tidal island Eilean Tioram in Loch Moidart, Lochaber, Highland, Scotland.

Jun 10, 2020 · Tioram Castle (pronounced CHEE-rum) is arguably one of the most beautiful and romantic ruins I have ever seen. I would even be so bold to say it’s in my top three castles that I have visited EVER! It is fairly easy to find (click HERE for directions).

The ruined Castle Tioram (pronounced Cheerum) is sited on the rocky tidal island Eilean Tioram (the Dry Island) where the waters of Loch Moidart & the River Shiel meet. The castle is closed to visitors but it is possible to visit the island at low tide and look at the castle exterior.

Tioram Castle was the seat of power of the medieval Lord of the Isles and is the ancestral home and former seat of the Macdonalds of Clanranald. It was strategically located guarding the movement between the southern Hebrides and Skye or the outer isles.
