One common story about Aquarius comes from Greek mythology. According to this legend, Zeus was angered by humanity and decided to destroy them all with a great flood. He sent out his son, Aquarius, as a water bearer to pour all the waters from the heavens onto the Earth.

In a different story, the constellation represents Deucalion, son of Prometheus, who survived the great flood along with his wife Pyrrha. In Babylonian myths, Aquarius is identified as GU.LA (the great one), the god Ea himself.
