The U.S. government is on a global egg hunt, seeking exports from European countries, to ease a severe shortage that has caused prices to hit record highs.

Despite Mr Trump's assurances that he would slash egg prices from day one, they soared by 59% during his first month in office.

Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden are among nations the U.S. has approached to address the shortage caused by a bird flu outbreak, European industry groups say.
