Maryland basketball star Derik Queen commented on a video released by Villanova, now featuring his former head coach Kevin Willard.
Kevin Willard is on the move and some of his former players are, too. Four Maryland players entered the transfer portal on Monday, and some of them could end up following the former Seton Hall coach to his new spot at Villanova.
“Coach Willard led the Terps on an incredible run this season. The Crab 5, Derik Queen ‘s miraculous buzzer-beater, and a Sweet 16 berth. This was a season to remember,” Maryland President Darryll J. Pines and Interim Director of Athletics Colleen Sorem said in a statement.
After Kevin Willard’s messy departure to Villanova opened the Maryland head coach job, Alabama basketball’s Nate Oats was one of the rumored candidates. Oats never showed any sign of potentially departing the Crimson Tide, and none of the rumors came from reputable sources, but still, UA athletics director Greg Byrne shot them down on Monday.
Kevin Willard's messy breakup with Maryland was completed Sunday when the 49-year-old coach was hired by a Villanova program that suffered through a March malaise over the last three seasons under the fired Kyle Neptune.
