On the first day of Texas’ 2025 legislative session, the seeds of the state’s largest measles outbreak in 30 years may already have been taking root. The Texas Department of State Health Services announced the first two measles cases in West Texas’ Gaines County on Jan.
The Texas health department reported 422 cases of measles in the state on Tuesday, an increase from 400 in its previous count on March 28, as the United States battles one of the largest outbreaks of the disease in the past decade.
The measles outbreak in west Texas continues to spread across the Lone Star State and has now expanded into the state's central region.
