The Boston 25 Weather team is closely tracking a system that could bring up to 5 inches of snow and icy driving conditions on Thursday before an eventual flip to rain in some places.

Drivers are expected to take caution on the roads on Thursday, as a day of snow could see a wintry mix as the hours progress into the afternoon and evening.

As the storm approaches conditions will be cold enough initially for snow but it will pull in some mild air that is expected to change the precipitation to rain for some.

An approaching system could bring up to 5 inches of snow and ice, and disrupt morning and afternoon travel before a flip to rain in some places.

A fast-moving clipper system dropped snow throughout Massachusetts overnight Sunday. Snow totals were highest in Western Massachusetts, but initial reports submitted to the National Weather Service indicate a fairly even distribution across the state.
