Dangerously hot temperatures gripped New York City and the Tri-State area again on Tuesday making it feel like a furnace outside and shattering records in the process.

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for New York City and much of the Tri-State area through Tuesday.

More than 40 million people in the U.S. were under heat alerts Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
