The Florida House has approved a bill to lower the age of gun purchases, and the Senate has advanced a proposal to create what appears to be the longest sales tax holiday in history for firearms and ammunition purchases.

Student survivors of last week’s deadly shooting at Florida State University are urging legislators to block an effort to reverse a law passed in the wake of the 2018 Parkland shooting that lowered the state’s gun-buying age from 21 to 18.

Less than a week after a gunman opened fire on the campus of Florida State University, killing two and injuring six others, students from the university called on Florida lawmakers to enact stronger gun safety reforms in the State Capitol on Tuesday.
