A Dallas police officer was arrested Saturday morning and is facing a public intoxication charge, police said. Officer Issac Burton was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation, according to a news release. It was not immediately clear whether Burton had an attorney.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) said in a release that Dallas police officer Issac Burton was arrested on Jan. 25 for public intoxication, a class-C misdemeanor. DPD did not say when or where the incident happened, but noted that officer Burton was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation.

The incident happened just after 11 p.m. when the guard confronted two shoplifters at the CVS on Main Street, according to Dallas police. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and opened fire before both ran away from the scene.

At about 11 p.m. Friday, police said they responded to a CVS in downtown Dallas on Main Street near North Akard Street. They said 39-year-old Anthony Egeonu had been shot. EMTs transported him to a nearby hospital where he died.
