The brush fire that blazed through 338 acres of New Smyrna Beach and Samsula overnight was still about 80% contained as of 4 p.m., according to a New Smyrna Beach Fire Chief Shawn VanDemark.
The “Honeydew Fire” near Samsula had reached 75 acres in size as of 4 p.m., south of State Road 44 near South Cucumber and Honeydew Lanes, according to a post in the association's Facebook page.
