Lions general manager Brad Holmes has built a dominant contender in Detroit. His goal with the draft looming less than a week away is to keep it that way, making sure to avoid the pitfall of valuing immediate needs over landing the best players.

The Lions have the 28th overall pick in Round 1 and two picks on Day 2 with needs to fill at defensive end, guard, wide receiver and safety.
