Shares of Eli Lilly soared Thursday morning after the pharmaceutical giant announced a clinical trial of its once-daily weight loss pill, orforglipron, demonstrated effectiveness consistent with other injectable GLP-1 weight loss drugs, such as Lilly’s Mounjaro and Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic.

Pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly’s study of its tablet, orforglipron, has raised hopes of an effective and easy-to-use treatment reaching a market dominated by injections.

Weight loss drugs come at a cost, and it is not the MRP you read on the packaging. There are practical complications that come into play after you get them—refrigeration, storage cost and their requirement to get injected in the body from time to time.
