In an email to Channel 8, the NTSB said preliminary information indicates the Cessna 180 aircraft struck a power line before crashing into the Platte River on Friday around 8:15 p.m. Emergency crews staged at Luther Hormel Memorial Park next to the river, according to a Channel 8 reporter at the scene.

The National Transportation Safety Board says a small plane appears to have struck a power line before it crashed into the Platte River in Nebraska.

The plane, a Cessna 180, went down shortly after 8 p.m. April 18 while traveling along the Platte River south of Fremont, Nebraska.
