Eleven nonprofit legal services organizations, including one in Berkeley and another in East Palo Alto, this week filed a lawsuit in federal court in San Francisco seeking to preserve funding for the legal representation of children in immigration matters.

The Trump administration ordered legal service providers working with unaccompanied migrant children to stop their work, according to a memo obtained by CNN.

It’s a roughly $200 million federal contract split by legal aid groups in Arizona and other states that allows attorneys to speak to and represent children after they’ve been released into shelter facilities run by the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
