In 2008, when an orange-haired, ornately patterned spider was found in Malaysia, it was named Heteropoda davidbowie. In 2010 a whale fossil made a splash when it was dubbed Leviathan melvillei.

Later on, Spider-Man would yell for all the survivors to clear out so he could take on Scorpion more securely, and when they're shown leaving, the red-haired victim would not be among them.
