Even more remarkably, Mommy is the oldest first-time parent of her species, according to a press release from the zoo. Mommy is estimated to be around 100 years old and—although her age may seem shocking—she still has a long life ahead of her, as Galapagos tortoises can live to be as old as 177.

Four rare Western Santa Cruz Galápagos tortoise hatchlings will go on public view at Philadelphia Zoo starting April 23.

Mommy and Abruzzo, a pair of Western Santa Cruz Galapagos tortoises, are the proud parents of four hatchlings at the Philadelphia Zoo. Although their exact ages are not known, both parents are believed to be about a hundred years old.
