Air India, the country’s flagship carrier, said in a post on X that Flight 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick had been “involved in an incident.” The airline said it was “ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest.” It was scheduled to depart at 1:10 p.m. local time (3:40 a.m. ET).

An Air India flight with more than 240 people on board heading to London’s Gatwick Airport crashed in a populated area of Ahmedabad, India, with investigators believing that there are likely no survivors.

A London-bound passenger plane crashed in the Indian city of Ahmedabad on Thursday and all 242 people on board were believed killed, with the jet smashing into buildings housing doctors and their families.
