Walter Clayton Jr. and Florida ended UConn’s pursuit of a third straight national championship, with Clayton burying two key 3-pointers in the final three minutes of a scintillating 77-75 victory for the top-seeded Gators in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
In one of the better games of the men's NCAA basketball tournament so far, two-time defending champion UConn pushed No. 1 seed Florida to its absolute limit. However, timely clutch shooting from the Gators' Walter Clayton Jr. and the inability to capitalize on Florida's poor free throw shooting down the stretch ultimately doomed Dan Hurley's crew.
Florida’s Alex Condon made it 65-64 by making his first of two free throws with 1:52 remaining, and Florida got the rebound off his miss on the second, getting two more free throws by Clayton with 1:45 left for a 67-64 lead.
