Actor Josh Brolin and director Michael Mann are among those honoring actor Val Kilmer after his death on Tuesday at age 65.

Michael Mann, Francis Ford Coppola, Nicolas Cage, Jim Carrey and Josh Brolin were among the many entertainment industry figures who paid tribute to Val Kilmer after news of his death was announced.

Kilmer’s breakout role came as LT Tom “Iceman” Kazansky opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun (1986). That was followed by the fantasy film Willow (1988). His big break as a leading man came with his swaying, leather-clad portrayal of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors.

The actor took only one turn in the famous batsuit. That film, “Batman Forever,” couldn’t be a more representative artifact of its era.

Val Kilmer, a versatile Hollywood hero of the ’80s and ’90s with star turns as both the likes of Batman and Jim Morrison, has died. He was 65.

A wide-ranging leading man who earned critical praise, he was known to be charismatic but unpredictable. At one point he dropped out of Hollywood for a decade.

Tom Cruise is paying his respects to his former co-star and “dear friend” Val Kilmer. The actor made an appearance at CinemaCon on April 3 in Las Vegas to promote “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.
