The Trump administration is claiming the right to deport individuals based on their beliefs or speech alone, as pressure mounts to release activist Mahmoud Khalil. In a memo obtained by The Associated Press,

Khalil, a Columbia graduate student who helped lead protests against the war in Gaza last year, was arrested by immigration authorities on March 8.

The government submitted a two-page memo from Secretary of State Marco Rubio as its main evidence in its deportation case against Khalil.
