The Kremlin has said it does not want to get ahead of itself after Ukraine announced it was ready to accept an immediate 30-day ceasefire with Russia.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday that it needed to be briefed by the United States on the outcome of U.S.-Ukrainian talks in Saudi Arabia before commenting on whether a proposed ceasefire in Ukraine was acceptable to Russia.

Russia says it will wait to be briefed by US officials before responding to the ceasefire proposal, which has been backed by Ukraine.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday it was studying a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, after American and Ukrainian officials said the ball was in Moscow’s court. The United States agreed on Tuesday to resume weapons supplies and intelligence sharing after Kyiv said at talks in Saudi Arabia that it was ready to support a ceasefire proposal.

Moscow has declined to comment on whether the ceasefire proposal agreed by the US and Ukraine on Tuesday is acceptable to Russia, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov saying Moscow expects to be briefed by the US officials involved in the talks first,

The Kremlin didn’t comment on the agreement announced Tuesday between the U.S. and Ukraine on the provision of further military support, including intelligence sharing, and the possibility of a ceasefire that Washington backs.

Trump special envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to travel later this week to Moscow, where he could meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia expects Ukraine to show a desire for peace during talks with the US in Saudi Arabia this week.
