A federal judge ruled that James Uthmeier violated an order halting the enforcement of a law that makes it a crime for adults living in the United States illegally to enter Florida.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier was held in contempt by a federal court Tuesday over guidance he gave to local police saying they could ignore an injunction on the state’s criminal immigration penalties.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier argued that enforcing policy and legislation is “not the role” of the judicial branch, vowing that the state will continue to detain and deport illegal immigrants.
