Professional boxing and Showtime have a storied history, but after 37 years, their partnership is coming to a close. Paramount announced Tuesday it is shutting down Showtime Sports at the end of 2023.

Showtime Sports, the brand that televised some of boxing’s biggest fights since its 1986 launch, will be discontinued at the end of this year, parent company Paramount said Tuesday.

Showtime’s exit from the sports business follows a similar move by HBO Sports back in 2018, when it exited the boxing business. HBO still produces sports films and documentaries.

Showtime, which has been a fixture in the sport's programming for 37 years and aired some of the game's biggest fights, will exit boxing programming at the end of 2023.
