When I hear about comedian Shane Gillis, it’s like when someone talks to me about New England for too long: my eyes glaze over because that is not my business. That is white people’s business to sort out amongst yourselves.

A little more than a year after his return to Saturday Night Live, comedian Shane Gillis was back hosting the iconic late night show this weekend. Gillis' first stint at SNL in 2019 was brief and ended after footage surfaced of him telling offensive jokes.

“SNL” showrunner Lorne Michaels has said that firing Gillis was not his choice and he was “angry” with NBC’s decision. All hard feelings were buried when Gillis made his official Studio 8H debut last year, hosting the February 25, 2024 episode.
