During today’s Direct presentation, Nintendo spent a lot of time talking about the Switch 2’s new built-in GameChat functionality that will give players a way to share their screens during group video calls. But the company also announced that it’s rolling out an update for the Switch family of systems’ companion smartphone app.
Nintendo also announced a new Switch 2 Pro controller with its own C button and programmable GR/GL buttons on the back of the controller. The new Pro controller will also have an audio jack. Nintendo introduced a brand new feature called GameShare. GameShare will allow users to play the same game together locally on multiple Switch devices.
That’s not all. Nintendo is also offering a second tier of free Switch 2 patches for games like Super Mario Odyssey and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. These don’t count as full Switch 2 Editions, but they will “improve playability” and “may improve performance or add support for features such as GameShare ,” depending on the game.
Nvidia says that its chip enables DLSS support on the Nintendo Switch 2, allowing the console to upscale games and provide better performance, much like how DLSS powers Nvidia’s desktop and laptop GPUs. Nvidia doesn’t mention which version of DLSS will be supported on the Switch 2, nor whether there will be any frame generation capabilities.
