When seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton suffered damage to his car during the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, the cause wasn’t initially clear.

Hamilton, who was running well inside the top five, suffered a mysterious loss of pace after Lap 13. Sky Sports F1’s Karun Chandhok later revealed that Hamilton had been carrying car damage from that moment on, specifically, a 20-point loss of downforce.

Hamilton's race suffered as a result of the damage, limiting the amount of downforce created by the car. Adami notified Hamilton about the hindrance after the seven-time world champion said he was going "nowhere" in the race, providing context for the lackluster pace.
