The Trump administration is signaling it intends to cut off federal funding for a long-delayed California high-speed rail project plagued by multibillion-dollar cost overruns.

A California Assemblymember has introduced a bill to protect Central Valley communities and demand accountability for the billions of taxpayer dollars spent on the high-speed rail project, which has faced criticism for lack of progress and oversight issues.

The Trump administration said it would pull roughly $4 billion in federal funding for California’s long-planned high-speed train, a project that has, over decades, become an avatar for the country’s declining ability to complete transformative new infrastructure.
