Rep. Thomas Massie, the lone Republican holdout on the government spending bill championed by President Donald Trump, has a history of angering lawmakers from both parties.

President Trump on Monday called for a fellow Republican to challenge Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) in a primary election over the congressman’s opposition to a continuing resolution that would keep the government from shutting down.

The Kentucky lawmaker was the only Republican to cross the president and vote against the government-funding bill.

Texas GOP Rep. Keith Self abruptly ended a House hearing following a tense exchange between lawmakers after Self referred to transgender Rep. Sarah McBride as “Mr. McBride.” McBride is the first openly transgender person to be elected to congress and has faced attacks on her identity from Republicans.
