Even with prophylaxis, hip arthroplasty patients carry an overall rate of DVT of 10% to 15% (proximal DVT 3% to 7%) as determined by routine venography at the time of discharge.
The reported venographic rates for overall DVT are between 10% and 20%, and between 5% and 10% for proximal DVT. Major bleeds occur in 1% to 3% of the cases and minor bleeds in 2% to 5%.
