Maj. Kate Rubins, a microbiologist and Army Reserve Soldier, achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Army Reserve member to earn the Basic Aviation Badge with the Astronaut Device.

Col. Frank Rubio, who spent 371 days in space, is one of three active-duty soldiers awarded the Army Aviation Badge with Astronaut Device.

On Thursday afternoon, Rubins pinned on the Army Aviation Badge with the Astronaut Device. “It’s really an incredible honor to receive this device,” Rubins said.
