April Fools' Day falls on a Tuesday this year. The unofficial holiday is celebrated on April 1 every year. April Fools' Day is not recognized as a holiday in any country except for Odessa, Ukraine, where April 1 is an official city holiday. It is not a federal holiday in the U.S., although the tradition of playing pranks and jokes still goes on.

April Fools' Day has also been linked to festivals such as Hilaria, which was celebrated at the end of March by followers of the cult of Cybele in ancient Rome. People dressed up in disguises and mocked fellow citizens. April Fools' Day may also be tied to the vernal equinox, or the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
