Step aside, Moana, Elsa and Simba. In recent years, Stitch has quietly become one of Disney’s most popular — and most merchandised — characters.

Depending on your age, you might not see Lilo and Stitch as an A-list Disney property. If you grew up in the era of Cinderella and The Jungle Book — or even Aladdin and The Lion King — it likely doesn't rank among the most famous of Disney movies.

I sound like a broken record; whenever I review these Disney remakes, I say they’re an unnecessary cash grab. Even if I like the film, as I did with “ The Little Mermaid ,” I still conclude that corporate greed is the sole reason for its existence.
