Voter ID laws seem to be popular, as 77 percent of likely U.S. voters supported photo ID requirements, according a poll.

The state has required voters to use photograph identification for nearly a decade, but an amendment to the Wisconsin Constitution was seen as making it more difficult to roll back that rule.

While Wisconsin's voter ID law has been in effect since 2016, putting it in the constitution makes it harder for a court to strike down in the future.
