The Palisades and Eaton fires, two of the deadliest and most destructive wildfires in California history, reached 100 percent containment more than three weeks after they began.

NBC News reports that the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection declared the Palisades and Eaton Fires as 100% contained on Friday. Both fires broke out on Jan. 7 and combined burned more than 37,000 acres across Los Angeles County.

At least 29 people were killed in the two fires that scorched thousands of acres and destroyed or damaged more than 18,000 structures.

The Eaton Fire that scorched more than 14,000 acres east of Los Angeles has been 100% contained, fire officials said on Friday, a largely symbolic milestone more than three weeks after two devastating wildfires broke out on either side of Los Angeles.

The Palisades Fire has been the largest in terms of burned areas. The iconic Malibu restaurant Moonshadows was completely destroyed, as was the Palisades Branch Library. The Palisades Charter High School suffered extensive damage. Here’s an analysis of the building damage with what we know now:
