Now, the life-changing prize will make it possible for Veronica Cunningham to retire before the end of the year. “This is crazy,” the prize winner, who lives in Charlotte, told the N.C. Education Lottery in a March 31 news release. “It’s just wild.”

So where did the player hit the jackpot? The lucky ticket was sold at the Quality Mart gas station in Pinnacle, a roughly 20-mile drive northwest from Winston-Salem, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and on X, formerly known as Twitter.
