McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, who took his maiden pole position on Saturday, got a great start in Sunday's race to lead into the first corner, as Norris passed Russell for second.

Lando Norris spent most of the race fending off George Russell with reasonable ease too, the Mercedes trundling around in third place and holding off the Ferraris of Leclerc – missing a front wing endplate from the first corner – and Hamilton.

McLaren's Lando Norris said he was lucky to finish Sunday's Chinese Grand Prix, and stretch his Formula One championship lead to eight points, after a brake problem became critical in the closing stages.
