An erupting Hawaii volcano is shooting fountains of lava hundreds of feet into the sky. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says Kilauea's fountains reached heights of 400 to 500 feet Tuesday.

According to the US Geological Survey’s (USGS) Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, episode 12 of the Halemaʻumaʻu eruption began on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. HST when sporadic lava flows alternated between the south and north cones. The episode ended at 10:37 a.m. HST on Wednesday.

Fountains dropped in height 250 feet (80 meters) to 300 feet (90 meters) on Tuesday night, according to the Hawaii Volcano Observatory. On Wednesday morning, a webcam still showed tall bursts of fiery red lava and billowing smoke.

Episode 13 of Kilauea’s eruption has started
Kilauea’s Halemaʻumaʻu crater eruption picked up again early on March 10, with lava fountains shooting up to 400-500 feet (120-150 meters) just after 2:30 a.m. HST, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
