An unexploded WWII bomb discovered near tracks leading to France's busiest train station has severely disrupted rail service as police work to disable the device.

The police successfully defused the explosive device, which weighs more than 1,000 pounds and was found near tracks north of the French capital during landscaping work.

Workers discovered an unexploded World War II bomb under the train tracks about 1 1/2 miles north of Gare du Nord station in Paris early Friday morning, according to NBC. The discovery led to major travel delays affecting local and international passengers as officials worked to remove and dispose of the bomb.
